Trying your own bakery is... trying. (Open.)
There's a ton that Raleigh doesn't know. Of course there is - everybody's got that stuff, things that they don't really have an interest in figuring out. That being said, she got this chance - this ridiculous chance, and that's why she's currently sitting down outside of the local coffeeshop, and she's... looking.
She's looking at the binder her boss gave her, that's got expenses and income, because she's theoretically doing inventory because he asked her to, even though it made no sense.
But... she gets numbers. For the first time she gets numbers, and Raleigh stares at the books, because she knows how much she gets paid. She knows how much a pastry sells for.
And now, she can see exactly the sort of profit her boss is getting. "Holy shit." She stared down at the box again, and she shakes her head, and she starts to wonder - not for the first time - about starting this herself, and pay the people working for her a decent, llving wage.
Now, if only she knew where to start...

"Holy shit?" she said, flashing the girl a smile as she sat down at the table. "Must be some exciting papers there."
no subject
Okay.
"Uh, yeah? My boss wanted me to... look over his books, and... uh." Tipping her head to the side, Raleigh shook her head slightly. This? All of this? Made no sense. "I'm Raleigh, by the way." She sounds a little distracted, before she flips the page, and then finally looks up, and the smile's back. "You're... uh..." Hoping her memory kicks into gear, Raleigh rifles through everyone she's heard of lately, and then she abruptly remembers. "Genevieve! Right?"
no subject
Genevieve was surprised that the girl knew her since she didn't know her. She was just going to take it as flattering though and not creepy or anything like that. Genevieve had been pretty social since coming to town so it was possible they had a mutual friend or met at a part or something. Or maybe Raleigh was creepy.
"You got it. Nice to meet you, Raleigh. Find anything exciting? Embezzling, tax evasion, slave wages?"
no subject
"I don't know if I'd know tax evasion if I saw it, but... uh. I think I need to start my own business," she says with a laugh, shaking her head. "It's boring, anyway. Work." She flips the book closed, and since she's no longer alone at the table, she sits up a little straighter, and she's... well. Nicer. "What're you up to, today? I'm betting it's more interesting then my day, I can almost guarantee it," she said with a small, sheepish laugh.
no subject
"And don't worry, I'm here so your day just got a lot more interesting."

This girl was too, too adorable the way she perched her chin on her hand like that and just smiled at Genevieve. Genevieve could swear that she was swooning just a bit and how cute it all was.
"Oh, I absolutely know how good it could be," she said, giving Raleigh a wicked grin.
no subject
Raleigh's brows arch up just a little bit when Genevieve says it could be good, and she tips her head to one side. "... Really? I'm sort of afraid to ask." She's still smiling - she can't really not smile, not with the way that Genevieve seems full of energy and just to know what's happening and it's really nice, weirdly, just to have somebody who seemed... happy. "But go ahead. How good could it be?"
no subject
"Seaside Bakery I think?" Genevieve said, twisting up her face a bit as she tried to remember. Just about everything here was 'Siren Cove this' or 'Seaside that' so they all kind of blended together a bit to her. Except for the Quill, that was easy to remember. It didn't matter though because Raleigh was smiling so big and Genevieve couldn't help but get a little excited.
"Oh, it could be mind-blowingly amazing if you let it, Raleigh."
no subject
"That's me," she says, and she's so proud of herself, she can't stop the way she smiles. "That's the bakery that I work at, I make almost all the pastry there." She's beaming, her heel drumming against the leg of her chair. This just about made her day, and she isn't really sure what else could make it better, but she's already pretty much having the best day, given what Genevieve's just said.
no subject
"Oh, well, bravo then," Genevieve said. If she was the one that was responsible for their success that meant if she went to start her own business then she probably wouldn't have to worry about competition for long. She just had to worry about starting up an entire business and all that. No biggie, right?
"You should celebrate."
no subject
"What're your plans for today? Have you eaten?" It's a reflex, the offer to feed people, and it's one she doesn't even think about anymore.
no subject
Genevieve thought that was a bit of an overreaction for a complete stranger to have over being told that people really liked her stuff. If you were super into baking though, she supposed that would be incredibly exciting to hear. Having never really been into anything like that, Genevieve couldn't say that she'd experienced a reaction like that.
"I've eaten, but I could go for a bite. What about you?" she asked.
no subject
Soon, reality'd kick back in - there's a lot between saying I think I'm going to make a business and actually making a business, and she's got to actually separate out all the things that entails, but that's a little further down the road.
no subject
"What if it's not the pastries I'm interested in, but the baker?" she asked, casually arching an eyebrow. She'd found that it was best to kind of just throw yourself out there. She hated playing the, "Is she or isn't she into girls?" game and found the best way to circumvent it was to be overt. Flirty and upfront had always worked wonders for her. Either the flirting was returned or she knew where they stood. Either way it was a win.
no subject
"Sorry," she says after a second. "I mean... we could still do pastries. Or coffee? Just... friends?" God, kill her. Kill her now, because she feels so incredibly awkward right now.
no subject
"Pastries sounds good," Genevieve said, rather amused at the girl's reaction. It was like that sometimes and honestly she found it kind of adorable. It was a perfectly fine way to be let down and meant that things wouldn't be weird between them. At least she hoped that they wouldn't be weird.
"And I'm always up for making new friends."
no subject
She smiles at Genevieve, leaning her chin on her hand again, because.... she thinks the awkwardness is mostly over. "So now that we're friends," Because they were, no question, "What do you like to do for fun? Because I'm actually trying to get better and do more in the fun category."
no subject
Genevieve had to give a little laugh at the relief in Raleigh's expression when Genevieve backed off a bit. It was a really sweet reaction and it endeared the girl to Genevieve even more. It seemed like they might actually be decent friends after all if she was really this sweet.
"I'm still pretty new here so I'm just adjusting, mostly. Doing a bit of classes online and visiting the beach and such. Cruising for cute baker girls, that sort of thing. I'll probably have to get a job before too long."
no subject
"I haven't been here all that long - I'm definitely not one of the people who grew up here, so if you ever need some company, I'm all for hanging out? I mean, if you'd want to!"
no subject
"Yeah, until then I'll just do whatever I need to so I can pay the bills, right?" Genevieve said. That was mostly what her life was going to be up until it was over. Her mom at least loved her nursing job, even if she did it to make sure that they had a place to live and enough to eat. Seemed kinda of shitty to Genevieve that you could find you passion and it still didn't pay very much.
"I'd love to hang out. I'm pretty new here too, although I've got some family in town. But I can pick you to be my friend, I'm stuck with my family."
no subject
Raleigh loved her family, but she didn't know how to see them or reach out - and that was it's own problem.
no subject
"The family here is both okay AND weird," Genevieve said with a laugh. Coop wasn't all like she had expected him to be based on all she heard from their grandparents. Yes, Coop was the glorious golden child whom everything they said about was true in terms of all that he had done. He was also a ton of fun and the biggest man-whore she had met. Which gave them a lot to talk about.
"But he's been really great, especially considering I just sort of showed up on his doorstep out of the blue."
