Spencer wonders if his confusion is as evident on his face as it is in his head because he has so many questions about where things had just gone wrong. It seems to him that Raleigh thinks they're trying to subtly get her out of here, to keep her at arm's length, but that's not even remotely the case. If anything, Spencer has been trying to make an active effort to seem more inviting, to make Raleigh feel like she's at home whenever she uses the kitchen or the living room or the bedroom or even the library and the backyard. He'd thought he'd been rather clear that she's welcome to do or go whatever she likes but he supposes only hearing isn't always all too convincing.
"The plan was for Joel to cook dinner for all of us," he tells her, giving her arm a soft squeeze. "It doesn't have to be now, it doesn't even have to be an hour from now, just... whenever we get around to it." He moves back from Raleigh after he gives her arm another reassuring squeeze and loops his arm through Joel's, needing the physical contact because he can't stop trying to replay everything that's happened in the last few moments that might have made Raleigh feel like she's unwelcome here. Having his arm locked with Joel's at the elbow makes him feel more grounded, makes it easier to think without the muck of self-doubt clouding his judgment of the situation.
"I was joking about having the cookies for dinner," he says, biting down at the corner of his lip because he doesn't know what he should be doing here, what he should be saying. "Sort of, I mean. We can do anything, it makes no difference to me. I'm more interested in the company than anything else." He picks up the cookie he'd left on the table and shrugs a shoulder as he stuffs the rest of it into his mouth. "If this is you being in the way then by all means, overcrowd us because it's yielding incredible results."
